The German shipowners, the main market for Metalships in March.

SHIP REPAIR NEWSLETTER, in its issue number 1654 published in 24th March 2017, explains that Germany shipowners/managers continues to be the main market for Spain’s Metalships, Vigo, representing more than 50% of its total sales. An example of this is three German ships repaired during February/early March this year – one from John T Essberger and two from Liberty Blue. John T. Essberger’s 9,146 dwt cement carrier Valbella underwent her fifth special survey, in her first visit to Metalships. According to the yard´s shiprepair commercial department, “The great performance of our staff was honoured with the visit of their Managing Director, which we highly appreciated and hope it helps to set the basis of a long term co-operation between our companies”.

The two ships from Liberty Blue were the 7,890 dwt general cargo vessel Tip Leer, for completion her third intermediate survey, and the 7,750 dwt general cargo vessel Tip Emden, completing her second special survey. Metalships has also had a good result from a recent visit to Cyprus with contracts for four ships – three from Mastermind Shipmanagement and one from Seabird Exploration. Mastermind Shipmanagement made a block booking of three general cargo vessels, the 5,732 dwt MSM Douro, the 5,745 dwt MSM Dolores and the 5,192 dwt Triple S. The first ship, MSM Douro, was recently in drydock for standard drydocking work for her first special survey. Seabird Exploration’s 2,477 dwt research survey Harrier Explorer has recently undocked after undergoing her seventh special survey. Meanwhile, Coastal Shipping’s 17,034 dwt chemical tanker Alsterstern was alongside undergoing afloat repairs due to a failure of her main engine and several piping works in the fire line.
